|I got to the Lodge late last night and checked in. There is no road access to the Frontier Cabins where I was to stay, but the woman at check-in
said that with just the motorcycle I could possible ride up next to the cabin---which I did. No sooner did I stop, the camp patrol notified me that I cannot park there. I evidently picked the exact
wrong time to duck off the pavement just as a ranger was coming up the road (it was dark and I didn't know what to expect anyhos). I pleasantly responded that I would move to the
parking lot, BUT COULD I PLEASE UNLOAD FIRST. The answer came back, "GO AHEAD." I said thank you and went about my unpack routine, that rode to the parking lot about 100 yards away. All was OK.|
Today started early at 5AM walk to a lookout over the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to watch the sunrise scheduled for 5:31. There were many observers on the porch of the Lodge, but only a dozen or so folks who took the trek out to the very tip of the viewing area. I tool what pics I could and then strolled back to the Lodge for a vell deserved coffee (three actually). Next on the agenda was to go to the General Store where the only open wi-fi was available. After checking my email and updating the site I was off to go back to Zion.
Overheard at the General Store from the three park rangers sitting next to me; that there was a fellow that fell off a ledge and that there was a recovery effort underway. Recovery, meaning that the fall was fatal. Then one casually says that there was another "Thelma and Louise" last week, the third this year. WOW, I could never have guessed that the Canyon was so active in that way!
