Ted's Big Perimeter Ride - Day 04

Finally, a really nice riding day. I got on the road at about 10am and headed on US Rt-1 North from York, ME. Only a few miles to the (Highly Recommended) Maine Diner for a quick breakfast of wonderful Maine Blueberry pancakes. The road is generally in very good condition, although there were several sections where construction was underway and the road narrowed to one lane traversing at a time. But it does provide a much more scenic and leisurely ride than the Interstate.

I arrived at my Bar Harbor destination slightly before 6:00pm and was promptly fed a traditional Maine Lobstah Feast by my friends, Ernie and Carol. I worked with Ernie for some 20 years, and we both retired in the last few years. I've stayed in Washington, DC (so far), and Ernie & Carol moved to spend the warmer months here in Bar Harbor. After dinner we took a walk down to the town dock, just in time to catch a lovely sunset. All together, a very memorable day.

    Today = 216 miles,
    Total   = 878 miles
Riding Time:
    Today = 7 Hours, 42 Min,
    Total   = 1 Day, 6 Hours, 11 Min
9:34 AM - Nubble LightHouse
York's Historic Nubble Lighthouse at Cape Neddick. Cape Neddick Light Station in York, Maine was built in 1879 for $15,000 on a nub of land - thus the "Nubble" in its nickname. It was first lighted on July 1, 1879. Living quarters consisted of 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining, living, and pantry. The smaller red house was once used for storing fuel, and the little white house was a workshop. The light was automated in 1987, ending the need for a lighthouse keeper.
