Ted's Big Perimeter Ride - Day 08

Got up early to beat the crowd for more Blue Berry pancakes at Jordan's Restaurant in downtown BH. Wonderful as usual. Hint: When in New England always ask for real Maple Syrup, it can cost an additional $1 or 2, but well worth it.

Oddly enough, the eastern-most point in the US is located at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Did you get the conundrum??? As cartographers would have it, there is an East Quoddy Head, but it is located in Canada...OK!!!

images/3-3.JPG 4:41 pm - Crossing into Canada. Hand over my passport and say I'm visiting as a tourist. Basically all goes OK until I say that I would like my passport stamped. Can't do that here, if you want a stamp you have to go inside and submit to more questions. I elect to persevere. Inside I again hand over the passport and then am hit with a barrage of questions...where do you live, how long? Employment, when were you last in Canada, motor vehicle info, any guns, mace, other illegal items, etc, etc. They finally pull out the stamp, which obviously has not been used recently because it took minutes for the clerk to set the current date. All in all, it took two tries to get the stamp to read properly in my passport. So much for high-end border procedures and personnel.

images/8-9.JPG 7:28 pm - I saw this spot on my way to check out where exactly the ferry terminal was. After securing my reservation for the morning crossing of the Bay of Fundy to Digby, Nova Scotia, I returned here to set up camp. I got the bike about 1/2 unloaded and some dog walkers came over and said, "This is not a good place to camp...the mosquitoes will eat you alive by morning. Better to go 4 blocks down to Duke Street, take a left and go to the top of the hill. There you will find a park to camp in with no mosquitoes." As I was swatting the bugs I thought it would be a good idea to take their kind and unsolicited advise. I followed the directions and, sure enough...There it was, the "Grand Park Hotel." (emphasis on the Park)

All set up at the "Grand Park Hotel." The Harley is on a basketball court...hee, hee, hee.
