Ted's Big Ride---Day Thirty-Six

Thunder Bay, Ontario to Hearst, Ontario
June 4, 2006

I got packed up, had the continental breakfast, and left Thunder Bay at 10:27:00 AM. The weather was absolutely perfect for riding. I'm taking the TransCanadian Highway, which traverses Ontario through some lovely countryside. There are innumerable lakes, one after the next, and they are all just perfectly lovely.

More on the lake effect later.

Plan distance: 316 miles
Plan time at posted speed limit: 6 hours 30 minutes

Actual distance:  Today=324 miles    Total=7,941 miles

10:47:54 AM I have a long way to go

This is the route,
and this is the danger!

12:58:58 PM Another beautiful lake!!!
12:59:13 PM
1:23:26 PM Beardmore, Ontario ?Mascot?

Ice Fishing Heaven, I guess!

3:50:42 PM Great lunch place in Longlac, Ontario
Now for more on the lake effect.
I stopped for gas in Hearst, Ontario. I was considering where to camp out tonight. As I was pumping gas I was surrounded by mosquitoes. Then I got to figur'in. If there are 10,000 lakes in Minnesota and just as many here, and there are 10,000 mosquitoes per lake (a very conservative figure) then there are at least 100,000,000 mosquitoes available to bite me tonight. I therefore elected for the cheapest motel in town.
